BJS Maths: Year 4 maths final at King Edward’s School

By Mr. Setchell on Monday, January 22, 2018 in Maths, STEM, Year 4. No Comments

Today, our year 4 maths team competed brilliantly in the final of the year 4 maths competition hosted by King Edward’s School in Edgbaston. Although the team just missed out on success this time, they still enjoyed a fantastic day.

King Edward’s School kindly provided a lovely lunch.

After the competition, Dr. Katie Steckles showed us her top three favourite shapes and demonstrated some amazing maths.

Katie amazed us all by using a pair of scissors to turn two cylinders into this square!

Can a 3D shape have only one side? Dr. Steckles proved it!

Dr. Steckles’ favourite shape was a torus. She described it as a circle of circles and then had us all open-mouthed by using her garden bin bag and some smoke.

The BJS year 4 maths team with their well-earned finalist certificates. Well done, children!
