We have had a very busy, but exciting week this week. Yesterday saw the launch of our new library, named The Joyce Cadbury Library.
Joyce Cadbury (1905-1988) was married to the son of George and Elizabeth Cadbury, who founded our schools, but was also Chair of Governors between 1952-1981. She understood the value of reading and had a great gift for reading aloud. This library now provides the opportunity for everyone to discover new worlds through reading the books on its shelves. Joyce would have enjoyed visiting this library very much, and we are proud to name it after her. Joyce’s granddaughter, Vanessa Briggs, joined us yesterday to cut the ribbon and officially open our library. Do have a look at the attached picture to see just how wonderful it looks!
Over the last couple of days, pupils have had the chance to visit the library in their classes, but next week they will be going to withdraw a collection of books, linked to topics they are covering this term, to fill their class libraries.
We have also marked World Book Day by sharing books with our pupils with a hat theme, some examples include, ‘The Cat in the Hat’ by Dr Seuss; ‘This is Not My Hat’ by Jon Klassen; ‘Hat Tricks’ by Satoshi Kitamura and ‘Hairy Maclary’s Hat Tricks’ by Lynley Dodd. Our pupils hats and headgear looked fantastic- they had thought so hard about which character they were representing.
I hope you have a great weekend!
